As writer Stuart I. Frolick notes in his Spotlight profile of Julio Estrada in the June 2022 issue: “The notion of ‘getting away from it all’ has lost much of its luster since the start of the pandemic—especially for photographers for whom travel represents the lifeblood of their personal passions and professional practices.” The image seen here is from a portfolio of Estrada’s 45mm panoramic lens photographs made with his Hasselblad X-pan film camera. Venezuelan-born, Estrada is a fine art and travel photographer who leads workshops around the world through his company, The elongated format lends his images a cinematic feel and allows him to pack a lot of details and textures and narratives into each frame. You can read Julio’s story and see his other photographs in the June 2022 Black & White. (
